Spookamaga 2014 is closer than you think. This is a special year - lucky 13! The witches crew expects the fright sites this year to be the best ever. Watch for the Host Site Registration forms to be posted soon. Get a head start by contacting Witch One to discuss your fright site ideas.
Spookamaga 2013 was a hoot! Even though the weather was not so great, over 1800 visitors came out to be haunted. And a happy group they were! The witches crew and all of the volunteers put on quite a show. Thanks to all.
We're excited! Are You? In just one week we'll be seeing everyone at Spookamaga. As on this date, 61 troops are plotting how they will haunt .... err, entertain everyone. We'll also be using the new amphitheater and cabin for the first time. I can't wait!
Here are a few tips for visitors:
It's time to be thinking about Spookamaga 2013. Twenty-two troops are registered to host fright sites and there is always room for more. The record so far is 40 troops. We always like to set records.
We are still looking for a troop to take on the parking lot, the Welcome center, the maze and maybe even a carnival or something in Mary Randall. There is a new building which sleeps 20 and has enough room for a fright site. It sits next to Thunderbird and even has a deck in the front.
Start planning your fright site and give Witch One (Linda) a call to discuss it. The Fright site registration form is available on the Host a Site page. Both fright site space and overnight space is available on a first-come, first-served basis so get your registration in early.
Contact Witch One: Phone - 651-429-3083 or email - lsjkt @ comcast.net (Be sure to remove the extra spaces - we do this to avoid excess ghoul spam to the witches!)
Q. How do I register my troop and their families for Spookamaga?
A. There is no pre-registration for this event. Visitors pay at the gate. The fee is $5.00 per person (kids and adults). If you are attending as a group it is helpful to pay for the entire group (cash or check, no credit or debit cards) rather than individually.
Q. What is the $5.00 entry fee used for?
A. The $5.00 is used for purchasing the snacks and renting the camp for the weekend. Since this is a volunteer organized event we pay for camp rental just like any other group that uses it.
Q. How should I dress for Spookamaga?
A. We ask that visitors don't wear costumes. Dress for the weather. We should be having a crisp fall day this year so be sure you will be warm enough. Wear good walking shoes. You will be visiting almost all of the camp.
This is a good question. The goal of Spookamaga is to entertain, not frighten our visitors. Since visitors (even adults) vary a lot in what they find scary, we have a rating system for the fright sites at Spookamaga. The map which is given to each visitor will have a description of each site and ranking from 0 - 4 ghosts. Non-scary sites are 0 ghosts. Very scary sites have 4 ghosts. We try to have something for everyone. Visitors get to pick which sites they wish to visit so if any site seems too scary, just continue on to another one. In addition, the darkness factor usually comes into play. Daytime is generally much less scary than after dark. Since the date for Spookamaga is early this year sunset time is a bit later than in the past (6:45 PM). We encourage the younger visitors to come early so they can have plenty of time for fun before dark. The hayride, snacks, and being out at camp on a beautiful fall day are lots of fun. We look forward to seeing you and all of the visitors at Spookamaga in just a few weeks!
It's time to be thinking about Spookamaga. Start planning your fright site and give Witchone (Linda) a call. The Fright site registration form is available on the Host a Site page. Hope to see you all there on October 6.
Updated 10/1/12 - Registration for fright sites is closed. Please start thinking about hosting a fright site next year.
Pardon the neatness while we move into our new fright site. We will be working to get the cobwebs hung, the brooms in the closet, and the ghosts in their new haunting places. We'll be adding our flyer and forms soon. Please check back.
We look forward to haunting you on October 6. This is a week earlier this year due to a Council-wide event on our usual weekend.
Yours in Ghoul Scouting,
